The Importance of Positive Affirmations for Kids — Zing! (2024)

“The way we talk to our children becomes their inner dialogue.” ~ Peggy O’Mara

Growing up as a shy, insecure kid, positive affirmations became a really powerful way for me to do “big kid” things. This could have been anything from going on the school bus by myself and feeling good when I put on a new outfit to introducing myself to a new group of friends. Whether or not your kid is shy, I’ve seen the firsthand benefits of teaching kids how to say & use positive affirmations through Zing!

Taking a step back, a positive affirmation is a statement that we say to ourselves to help reprogram our mind to think positively! Positive affirmations help kids (and adults!) to improve themselves, accept themselves, and achieve their dreams. Yes, they’re amaZING!

Positive affirmations helps kids to gain confidence, contributes to a growth mindset, and helps kids to truly believe in themselves.

Kids need to hear what makes them special and strong over and over again. That’s why I incorporate the use of positive affirmations in all of our Zing! classes & workshops. I’m a big fan of warming up with positive thoughts, doing lunges while saying “I AM SO STRONG”, and cooling off with our signature “I FEEL AMAZING, I AM AMAZING.” You can see how the kids feel SO MUCH BETTER about themselves after saying the statements.

As adults, we impact children’s inner dialogues. This means that kids not only have to say positive affirmations to themselves during Zing!, but we also need to speak powerful statements to them too.

From waking up the in morning and saying “today I am happy” to coming home from a sports game and saying “I am proud”, positive affirmations will make your kid (and you) feel braver, stronger, confident, and filled with joy. Just a few positive words can turn your kid’s day into MAGIC!

Here are some of my favorite affirmations for both kids & adults. What are yours?

  • I can do hard things!

  • I am happy!

  • I am kind!

  • I am brave!

  • Learning is my superpower!

  • Mistakes are how I learn.

  • I get better with practice.

  • I am proud of myself.

  • I am safe.

  • I am awesome.

  • I am smart & strong!

Do you have questions on the power of positive affirmations? Want help trying to incorporate them into your kid’s day? Feel free to reach out to me here.

Here’s to have an amaZING day! Thanks for apart of the Zing! Crew,

Coach Michele
