If you’re unsure what type of sew ins you want or what sew in options are out there, you’ve come to the right place. As one of the most popular forms of hair extensions, a sew in has the most versatility. When getting a sew in, the most important thing is making sure your hair stylist knows different installation types. At Hair Extensions Inc, we not only install sew ins, we have several different types options that we offer.
What a lot of people don’t understand about sew in weaves is that there are only two ways you can get a sew in installation. One way is with hair left out and the other is with no hair left out. That’s really it. No matter what type of sew in you get, each method falls within these two categories, a partial sew in or a full sew in. Each method serves its own purpose. The choice is usually made by deciding on what type of maintenance you’re comfortable with during your sew in cycle.
A partial sew in means that the base of your sew in is partially braided. This method allows you to leave a portion of your natural hair out to cover the wefts. Partial sew ins give you the most natural look if done properly and if the correct type is chosen for your hair type. For a partial sew in, your hair must be long enough to blend into your extensions as well as the right texture to match your own. We own our hair extension company which means that our texture selection is huge. We are able to match almost any texture so that you get a flawless installation that will have people wondering if it’s all yours.
Different Type of Partial Sew Ins
Traditional Sew In– 15% of your hair is left out to cover the tracks. You can get either a middle part sew or a side part sew in.
Flip Over Sew In – Leaves your front hairline out to blend with your hair extensions.
Versatile Sew In – Enough hair is left out to cover a part as well as the entire perimeter of your hairline with enough hair left out to put up into a ponytail.
Reasons To Get A Partial Sew In
Looks more natural
More versatile
No glues or adhesives
Security with the tracks being sewn
Cons To Getting A Partial Sew In
You have to know how to blend your hair extensions
Possible heat damage when using too much heat to blend your extensions
A full sew in means that the base of your sew in is fully braided. During an installation, either a lace closure or lace frontal is sewn on top of your braids. With a full sew-in, you have more options when it comes to hair color and hair extension length. There is no blending to be done with your natural hair. We offer hair extensions that can be colored to any shade as well as the latest craze, HD Closures and HD Frontals. We also sell HD Film Lace.
Different Type of Full Sew Ins
Lace Closure Sew In– We use a A 4×4, 5×5, or 6×6 hair closure as the parting space on top of a full braided base.
Frontal Sew In – A 13×4 or 13×6 frontal closure covers the entire front hairline from ear to ear.
Reasons To Get A Full Sew In
Low Maintenance
Full Protective style so that your hair gets a chance to grow
You do not have to blend your hair into the hair extensions
Cons To Getting A Full Sew In
Closure or Frontal slides back when it grows out
Some methods require adhesives or glue which can be high maintenance
Requires extra maintenance
Less versatility

Hair extension methods can be broken down into two different categories and each has various methods of attachment: Strand by strand – bonded, micro links and knotting. Wefted panels – tape in, clip in, flip in, sewn in and glued in.
As semi-permanent extensions need to last for a specific amount of time, synthetic fibre hair is avoided as it will not last the same amount of time. Tape in hair extensions, commonly known as just 'tapes', are the leading semi-permanent hair extension method on the market.
Partial sew ins give you the most natural look if done properly and if the correct type is chosen for your hair type. For a partial sew in, your hair must be long enough to blend into your extensions as well as the right texture to match your own.
Traditional Sew-in: a traditional sew-in is a long established method of doing a sew-in, where your natural hair is braided and then the weft hair will be sewn unto your braids. A partial or full sew-in can fall under the term “traditional sew-in”.
Hair extensions are sections of hair, either real or synthetic, that are integrated into one's natural hair. They can alter the hair's appearance for long or short periods of time and are used to add volume, length and/or color.
There are several methods of weaving. The following 7 types of weave are the most commonly used techniques in the world. These are plain, slit, twill, sumak, pile, knotted and tapestry which give different patterns and textures of fabrics.
The Combline approach is a revolutionary method for adding volume and thickness to the hair. This technique involves attaching individual strands of hair using a comb-like extension tool.
