UPDATE: In tribute to Steve McMichael, the Chicago Bears have pledged to make a $76,000 contribution to the Les Turner ALS Foundation. Through the end of February 2024, every donation made to Bears Care — the charitable arm of the Chicago Bears — will be added to the $76,000 pledge that they are making in honor of McMichael and his fight against ALS. In addition, every donation will come with the chance to send a message to McMichael, which will be personally delivered to him.

Join the campaign by making a donation and sending a message that will be delivered to Steve.

Chicago Bears legend Steve “Mongo” McMichael has been elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame Class of 2024. At the Les Turner ALS Foundation, we have been proud to support Steve and his family since he was diagnosed with ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis) in January 2021.

Steve McMichael has always been larger than life. Besides winning Super Bowl XX with the 1985 Chicago Bears, arguably the most dominant defense in NFL history, and his Hall of Fame football career, he has been a professional wrestler, a head coach, a rock musician, and a radio host, to name only a few of his many adventures and endeavors.

At the 2021 ALS Walk for Life, we presented Steve with the first ALS Courage Award to celebrate his bravery and determination fighting ALS.

“Steve McMichael is a champion in every sense of the word,” said Laura Freveletti, CEO of the Les Turner ALS Foundation. “We’re so happy that he could receive this well-deserved recognition and share the excitement with his wife Misty and his wonderful family.”

The McMichael family and many of his Bears teammates will be in attendance at the Les Turner ALS Foundation’s Hope Through Caring Gala on Saturday, April 13 at the Radisson Blu Aqua Hotel to celebrate with Chicago and the ALS community. The event will include a special video presentation in honor of McMichael’s life and career. Tickets and sponsorships are available.

If you or someone you know needs support after an ALS diagnosis, you can learn more about ALS and explore our ALS resources. Our mission at the Les Turner ALS Foundation is to support people living with ALS and their families and fund research that will bring us closer to a cure. By making a donation or attending one of our events, you can help create a world free of ALS.
