Steelers’ Cameron Heyward named NFL Walter Payton Man of the Year (2024)

(WJET/WFXP)– Pittsburgh Steelers defensive end and team captain Cameron Heyward has been named the 2024 NFL Walter Payton Man of the Year for his charitable work.

The NFL held their annual NFL Honors award show Thursday night where stars across the league were honored for their achievements on and off the field.

Heyward was nominated for his numerous charitable works with his foundation The Heyward House which helps support local children experiencing food scarcity, students and teachers and fighting cancer. Heyward also started visiting sick patients at UPMC Children’s Hospital in week eight of the NFL season.

Heyward, a six-time pro bowler, three-time All-Pro and team captain, has been nominated for the award six times by the Steelers with this year being his first time taking home the prestigious award.

He now joins Steelers legends Franco Harris, Mean Joe Greene, Lynn Swann and Jerome Bettis as the only players from the team to ever take home the award.

Heyward was drafted in the first round of the 2011 NFL Draft by the Steelers and has spent his entire career with the team.
