Seven | Rotten Tomatoes (1) Jay Carr Boston Globe When Seven, with its velvety world of bottomless evil, taps you on the shoulder, your instinct will be to dive under the theater seat. Mar 29, 2024 Full Review Seven | Rotten Tomatoes (2) Michael H. Price Fort Worth Star-Telegram/DFW.com I wouldn't go so far as to call David Fincher's Seven the most terrifying film ever, but it's right up there on the top shelf with Psycho and The Silence of the Lambs. Rated: 4.5/5 Mar 29, 2024 Full Review Seven | Rotten Tomatoes (3) Gene Siskel Chicago Tribune The results of the killings are needlessly grotesque and don't really serve the smart screenplay by Andrew Kevin Walker and the artful direction of David Fincher. All of this talent is worth seeing if you can look past the gruesome details. Rated: 3/4 Mar 29, 2024 Full Review Seven | Rotten Tomatoes (4) John Scalzi Fresno Bee Seven doesn't take you to hell and back; it takes you to hell and keeps you there, looking around and wondering how it had come to this. Rated: A- Mar 29, 2024 Full Review Seven | Rotten Tomatoes (5) Quentin Curtis Independent on Sunday There is no denying that Seven is a deeply unpleasant movie. But I believe it is a fine one, too. It doesn't glory in its depravity, but keeps a distance from it. Mar 29, 2024 Full Review Seven | Rotten Tomatoes (6) Bill DuPre News & Observer (Raleigh, NC) All the literary allusions and cinema school self-consciousness can't save Fincher from drowning in the tawdry waste of this dreadful, brutal, abusive movie. Go, our little moviemaker, and sin no more. Rated: 1/4 Mar 29, 2024 Full Review Read all reviews

Max W Loved the noir art deco New York aesthetics and Brad Pitt and Morgan Freeman's synergy. Hated how the movie ended just like that. Man that was rough Rated 4/5 Stars • Rated 4 out of 5 stars 05/13/24 Full Review Rachel E Dreary and gloomy, just like the crimes, Se7en, is an intense, psychological thriller. Freeman, who others find to be rather disagreeable, is a breath of fresh air with his intellect and feel for the criminal mind and the type of detective I think all of us crave. A wonderfully written screenplay turned into a great movie. I only wish that the director had shown what happens to Mills and Somerset in the end. Read the book to find out more. FAQs

What does 57 Rotten Tomatoes mean? ›

As the reviews of a given film accumulate, the Rotten Tomatoes score measures the percentage that are more positive than negative, and assigns an overall fresh or rotten rating to the movie. Scores of over 60 percent are considered fresh, and scores of 59 percent and under are rotten.

What does 59 Rotten Tomatoes mean? ›

The 59% Club: An Ode to the Almost-Fresh Movie

Here, “close” means a movie that was in striking distance of being marked Fresh on the Tomatometer. A 60% score is what you need to be Fresh, and all the movies featured in this list are exactly one percentage point away: They are the members of The 59% Club.

What does 97 Rotten Tomatoes mean? ›

So when a movie such as “Black Panther” gets a certified “fresh” 97 percent on Rotten Tomatoes, we interpret it as a film that is near perfection, while a film such as last year's “The Emoji Movie” that lands around 9 percent, must be a steaming pile of garbage.

What does 100 Rotten Tomatoes mean? ›

The percentage is based on the film's reviews aggregated by the website and assessed as positive or negative, and when all aggregated reviews are positive, the film has a 100% rating.

Is 80% Rotten Tomatoes good or bad? ›

If the positive reviews make up 60% or more, the film is considered "fresh". If the positive reviews are less than 60%, the film is considered "rotten".

Is 99% Rotten Tomatoes good or bad? ›

The 99% Club: An Ode to the Almost-Perfect Movie

The 99% Club: You'll find it, way past 98% on the Tomatometer, but just before 100%. Inside, a coterie of cinema's practically-finest, movies promising an experience beyond most others – movies that are almost perfect.

How to understand Rotten Tomatoes rating? ›

When at least 60% of reviews for a movie or TV show are positive, a red tomato is displayed to indicate its Fresh status. When less than 60% of reviews for a movie or TV show are positive, a green splat is displayed to indicate its Rotten status.

What's a good Rotten Tomatoes score? ›

If 60% of reviews are positive, the movie is given a “Fresh” status, but if positive reviews fall below that benchmark, it is deemed “Rotten.” A popular piece of media will typically fall between the 70-90% range, but rarely, a project will receive a 100% score. This means every last review from critics was positive.

Why is Rotten Tomatoes so bad at rating? ›

The Big Picture. Rotten Tomatoes' main problem is its lack of nuance, sorting movies into good or bad without considering detail or redeeming qualities. Studios have used Rotten Tomatoes to their advantage, manipulating early reactions and scores to boost audience numbers and box office success.

What does 100% Rotten Tomatoes mean on Reddit? ›

A Rotten Tomato score is not a rating of how good it is. It's a score of how many people said the movie was at least ok (for RT a 6/10 is an ok). So if a film has a 100% on RT that means that nearly everyone gives the film a 6/10 or greater.
