Discussion

I'm thinking with the Promark GPS Shadow Drone being on sale at Walmart yesterday for $99 that there will be a lot of folks getting one.

I picked one up myself. The battery is interesting and takes forever to charge. Spare batteries are fairly pricey and hard to find. I just hacked a 2000mah 7.4v battery to fit, seems to work. eBay is full of 2400mah 7.4v batts for <$10 that should be adaptable.

Anyway, I flew it twice yesterday and it performed well. The app is straightforward and the wifi fpv worked great. Haven't tried the goggles yet but will do so soon.

Looks nice, especially considering its price-tag. Seems similar to the Syma X8 Pro. Just watched this video:

Promark GPS Shadow Drone (14 min 55 sec)

Video looks okay but rather prone to jello, but balancing of the props could remedy that surely (for a large part).

Wasn't aware of the Syma X8 Pro. I have a Syma X8C that I've had nothing but problems with, so I'm glad I found this one. I do have an older Syma X5c that's still going strong - it's a blast to fly it. I actually use the X5 controller with the X8 because the X8 controller won't bind.

I'm processing a video from the Shadow GPS right now and will upload it soon. It does have some jello. I should try balancing the props. It flies pretty well and the GPS hold works. I'm happy with it.

Here's my video from yesterday. I did scale it up to 1080p so it would be HD on youtube. I previously uploaded it at 720p and youtube scaled it down to 360p (maybe I should have let it process on youtube longer? Anyway, if it's not showing at hi-res, give it time. I didn't see much jello in the footage from this flight, but I did see some in earlier flights.

It certainly didn't during that flight. The first couple of flights did have some in spots. I suspect it has to do with what the quad is doing at the moment. Anyway, it's fine for what it is. Thanks for watching the video.

The one I have was the one on sale during Black Friday for $99. It has a gps. There is/was another Promark model called the warrior drone or something like that - I don't believe it had a gps. Not sure if the price has gone back up on the model I have. I'd say it's a decent value at $99.

The battery I "hacked" is a standard 2000mah 7.4v. I soldered some leads with female clips to fit over the two male ends on the quad. I then used a small piece of duct tape to keep it from falling out. Klunky, but it works. The stock battery is 2400mah, so this battery results in a shorter flight. I ordered a 2400mah battery from eBay for less <$10 delivered - that should work as well as the stock battery. I may order a larger capacity battery to try as I think there is plenty of room. The drawback to this is I need triple check the polarity when connecting up the battery - if it goes in backwards I suspect it would fry the quad.

I don't fly at night (not sure of the legality of it to be honest) so I can't comment on how well the camera works at night.

Also, here is a link to the spare battery at Walmart https://www.walmart.com/ip/Promark-L...tery/719420091

It's currently out of stock.

The ad copy says the battery communicates its charge level to the quad which enables the return to home; I don't know if that's true. If it is, my hacked in battery obviously won't do that. I suspect it's the quad that monitors the battery and returns to home when the charge is depleted. But, I don't know that and haven't tested it. I do recall seeing charge level on the app when flying and it did go down during the flight with the non-stock battery.

Yeah, I thought the $99 Black Friday price was a pretty good deal for a GPS enabled fpv quad. I'm surprised more people haven't posted about 'em. I have seen a uptick in YouTube videos with the Promark GPS though.

That is a good deal.

The local Walmart here has a good stock of 'em left over from Black Friday. I saw them sitting in an aisle today. They are marked at $179. I'm going to keep on eye on them to see if they go on clearance. I might pick up another one if they go down to $75.

It won't accept any typing?

https://promarkdrones.com/customer-service/

Are you using a computer? I just tried it on iPad and it worked.

You can also try calling them, number is on the top of the support page.

Or take it back to Walmart and see if they'll exchange it.
