My dad’s retirement: The second most beautiful chapter of my life. (2024)

Dear, Dad

Therefore, today I finally made the decision to sit down and write this lovely blog for my Dad’s retirement, and my heart is overflowing with feelings. At the same time, there is a tinge of melancholy and a great deal of thankfulness for the amazing ride you have had during your professional life.

To be quite honest, Dad, I observed how passionately and persistently you have devoted the past 41 years of your life to your work. Along the road, you have also surmounted obstacles with tenacity, met challenges head-on, and accomplished noteworthy or unforgettable milestones. Your tenacious work ethic has served as an example to all of us or to those fortunate enough to have seen your spectacular or exceptional path.

Beyond your professional accomplishments, however, there is something far more important: the difference you have made in the lives of people around you, Dad, particularly your family. You have been our steadfast rock and my own compass amid life’s storms. Our strength has come from your everlasting love and support, which has helped us achieve success and happiness.

I recall, Papa, how frequently—or how each and every time—you gave up your personal needs and wishes for the sake of your family or for us so that we may have a healthy diet and appropriate clothing. We all observed and admired your tireless efforts, long hours, and constant commitment without showing signs of stress. You instilled in us the importance of food as well as the virtues of persistence, honesty, and hard Laboure. I’m lucky to have you as a father who has taught me to appreciate all I own, no matter how tiny or significant it may be. You gave us an example of how a desire can be achieved with grit and confidence if one believes in oneself. Not very thrilled to see you at retirement age, but in some sense happy to see you right now since you can finally take a break from all these long office hours and start focusing on yourself.

I’d want to take a moment of your time today, on your retirement, to thank you for being the best parent a son or daughter could hope for. I appreciate everything you have done for me and for our family. Our lives have been significantly improved by you. I am exactly who I am now because of you, Dad, and I am always happy to identify myself as your daughter, your daughter, wherever I see myself.

I am aware that you are a little anxious about entering this new stage of life, but trust me, it will be even more spectacular than your career. I want you to know that this retirement is not the end of your working life, but rather the start of a new one in which you may find your passion, travel the globe, and enjoy your independence. You have the chance to spend this priceless time and special moment with the people you love. You deserve to enjoy this time all to yourself, Dad.

Thank you for being such a wonderful example of perseverance and love, Dad. Being your daughter makes me feel very proud, and I can’t wait to write the second most beautiful chapter of my life with you. Now it’s my chance to give you what you deserve, dad. I just have one thing to say to you, Dad: I love you very much. Keep smiling like this and don’t think too much. Dad, enjoy your retirement. Seeing you like this would be the most difficult thing for me to do.
