Mira Rajput Reflects on Marrying Shahid Kapoor at 21: 'I Wasn't Pushed into Fame, but I Didn't Realize Its Impact Fully'
When you marry a Bollywood superstar, the spotlight naturally shines on you. But for Mira Kapoor, fame wasn't something she actively pursued; it was a consequence of her new life with actor Shahid Kapoor in 2015. A decade later, she looks back on those early days with a mix of nostalgia and newfound perspective.
In an interview with Brut India, Mira Kapoor shared her thoughts on navigating the sudden attention. She emphasized that relocating and adapting to a new environment were more significant to her than the media's portrayal of her life.
"I wasn't thrust into this situation. I knew exactly what I was getting into. It wasn't until a year or two in that I truly understood the public's perception of me. I was somewhat unaware of the attention and how things were unfolding. Now, I'm much more attuned to the situation," Mira Kapoor, then just 21, revealed.
Despite her composure, Mira admitted that some incidents early in her marriage affected her. She recalled friends calling her, surprised by the reporters at the college gate. The media's coverage often left her perplexed, prompting her to ask Shahid how people were learning about these details. "They just make stuff up," she said, reflecting on the initial shock.
As she grew older, Mira found it strange to read false information about herself. "I don't interact with the media daily, so I don't need to be hyper-aware. Reading about my college life and other details sometimes feels like a mystery. But I've learned to let it go," she said, showing her evolving maturity.
For Mira, then based in Delhi, the biggest challenge wasn't fame but the change itself. Moving to Mumbai and making new friends were the primary concerns. Her friends weren't married, so finding a shared life stage and a new rhythm were essential. She questioned why people would fabricate stories about someone they didn't know.
Mira's secret to staying grounded? "I've never stopped being myself. I'm still true to who I am. That's what kept me grounded and normal," she said, emphasizing the importance of authenticity.
Mira Kapoor, now 31, married Shahid Kapoor (44) on July 7, 2015. The couple are proud parents to daughter Misha (9) and son Zain (7).
