James Robert Schug

Age 72, of Stillwater, MN, passed away peacefully on April 5, 2022, at home surrounded by family.

Jim was born in Minneapolis to Jeanette A. (Schneider) Schug and Robert J. Schug. He grew up in Chaska, where he attended Guardian Angels Catholic School. He later received a BA in social welfare from the University of Minnesota and an MBA from the University of St. Thomas.

A dedicated public servant, Jim spent 38 years in county government, beginning his career in social services and capping it off with many rewarding years as the Washington County Administrator. Upon retiring in 2012, he continued to volunteer his time to the Stillwater Rotary Club, Tozer Foundation, and Lakeview Hospital board of directors.

Jim was a devoted family man, friend, and community leader who was known for his kindness, fairness, integrity, and good humor. He touched countless lives with his wisdom and grace.

Jim had many hobbies and interests. He and his beloved wife, Connie, shared a passion for travel. He cherished cabin weekends with family and an annual Boundary Waters trip with friends. Closer to home, he enjoyed walking the dog around his Stillwater neighborhood, meeting with his long-standing book club, and spending time with his seven grandchildren.

Jim is survived by his wife of 48 years, Connie J. (Eissler), and by daughters Emily (Mike) Hedquist, Mary (David) Young, Anna (Chris) Clayton and grandchildren Charlie, Luke, Grace, Alex, Max, Julia, and Joe. He is also survived by sister Joanne (Glenn) Goehring, brothers Jack (Barb) Schug and David (Lori) Schug, nieces, nephews, cousins, and many other relatives and friends. He will be missed by all who knew him.

A funeral and celebration of life will be held at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Stillwater, 611 3rd St. S., Stillwater, MN at 11:00 am on Wednesday, April 13, 2022. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service in the church atrium. A private interment will take place at a later date.
