How to determine what GPA is competitive for UF admissions? (2024)

Hey guys, I'm a high school junior starting to look at colleges and I'm super interested in the University of Florida. Does anyone know what kind of GPA UF typically looks for in applicants? I'd like to know so I can set a realistic target for myself before senior year crunch time hits. Thanks in advance!

Hi there! It's great that you're planning ahead for your college applications. The University of Florida, like many selective institutions, usually looks for strong academic performance from their applicants. However, UF doesn't have an explicitly stated 'minimum' GPA, since admissions are based on the quality of the applicant pool each year.

Generally speaking, strive for a weighted GPA of at least 4.0-4.3, keeping in mind that UF considers the rigor of your course load as well. They look for students who challenge themselves with Advanced Placement (AP), International Baccalaureate (IB), Honors, or Dual Enrollment courses. For instance, a student with a slightly lower GPA but a challenging course load can still be a strong candidate.

Don't forget though, UF uses the SSAR (Self-reported Student Academic Record), so accuracy in reporting your GPA and courses is essential. Aim high, but also remember to balance your course load to manage stress and maintain extracurriculars. UF values well-rounded students, so keep up the good work in all areas! If you have further questions, your school's counseling office can be a helpful resource. Good luck!
