I was lucky to have a great experience when I announced my second. I was maybe a month into a new role, a promotion I had fought hard for. I'd also been trying to get pregnant for 18 months, and both happening at the same time was one of those lovely tricks life likes to play on you.I went into my meeting with my new manager (Ed Couchman , then head of UK ads at Facebook) somewhat sheepishly. His response was "oh my goodness, please don't have an apologetic look on your face, this is wonderful news, congratulations. Of course we'll do everything we can to support you, however. Now, back to this work idea you had..."It felt fantastic to have my pregnancy acknowledged with warmth, support offered, but then also not assuming that I wouldn't have my brain in the game for work too. The next 6 months, while pregnant, were some of the best of my professional career.I think it's also really important not to assume that a pregnant person has checked out of work already. Give them the space to pull back if they need to (e.g. I stopped traveling relatively early) but otherwise, if someone is still ambitious and feeling well enough to work hard, give them the chance to do so.

Enjoy your vacation? 😂👏🏻Please tell me it was said by someone who hasn’t been on maternity or paternity leave themselves, right? Or have I just been doing it wrong all this time? 😅

Thirty two years ago and I still remember one of my coworkers’ response to finding out that I was expecting… “But, you don’t even like children.” Seriously? The nerve. 🙄

Ugh I hated how I was treated when I was pregnant in my police career. People are literally rude, miserable, and cruel.

For any worker who 🚨 is pregnant, 🚨 is TRYING to get pregnant, 🚨 or who was PREVIOUSLY pregnant… The EEOC released their proposed regulations for the Pregnant Workers Fairness Act in August and 👏🏼 it 👏🏼 is 👏🏼 HUGE 👏🏼 (275 pages to be exact but that’s not what I mean)When our laws start taking steps in the right direction to protect vulnerable individuals, I take my job very seriously in making sure the message is received by the people who need to hear it. I posted yesterday teasing about how much law I read for not being a lawyer but this is why I do it. Employment law is our product. And I need to understand our product inside and out.More on this campaign soon.#legalmarketing #lawfirmmarketing #employmentlaw #pregnantworkers #lawyers

Autonomy in Pregnancyknow your risks and benefits, make informed decisions! Why did I create this guideline? I put in the hours (and hours and hours) exploring my risks to make informed decisions in both of my pregnancies AND STILL missed some risks. My healthcare team, despite being quite dynamic and experienced also didn't have the full range of information, they also didn't understand my situation. This lack of information often leads to risk adverse reactions, often taking the person off the tools! Despite what Fair Work says, this still occurs, and women often miss out on the benefits of their normal job, or are exposed to psychosocial factors either having to fight to reduce workload or maintain the load they are comfortable with. Every company that implements a breastfeeding and/lactation policy can surely also look at their factors and risks for pregnancy, compiling them to be available ? Prior to there being a need is when something should be formed. Be proactive this IWD 💜 #notanothercupcake Here is a basic start and a guide for those who need support or need to support someone in pregnancy;🤰🏿🤰🏻🤰🏾🤰🏼https://lnkd.in/gwAE9DjR🤰🏿🤰🏻🤰🏾🤰🏼#iwd #hivisbump #pregnancysupport #workplacepregnancy #pregnantatwork

  • October is Pregnancy Loss and Awareness Month. And thanks to The Pregnant Workers Fairness Act (PWFA) that passed earlier this year, employees who experience pregnancy loss have better protections. The PWFA requires employers to make reasonable accommodations to limitations related to pregnancy, childbirth, or related medical conditions."'Pregnancy' and 'childbirth' include, but are not limited to, current pregnancy; past pregnancy; potential or intended pregnancy; labor; and childbirth (including vagin*l and cesarean delivery)......This list is non-exhaustive, and an employee or applicant does not have to specify a condition on this list or use medical terms to describe a condition in order to be eligible for a reasonable accommodation."If you are pregnant, were pregnant, or trying to become pregnant, you are now protected in receiving reasonable accommodations at work.#knowyourrights #pregnancydiscrimination #pwfa #employmentlaw📣 If you have questions or believe you have been discriminated against or have not been provided reasonable accommodations by your employer during your pregnancy, contact us today to understand your rights by calling 512-881-8126 or learning more at https://lnkd.in/e73h7Hzt
