How do you Make Dutch Pancakes Without Egg?

For this egg-free pancake recipe you need the following ingredients: flour, baking powder and milk. Plus oil, butter for frying and a pinch of salt. Optionally add some cinnamon and vanilla sugar to sweeten the pancakes.

Mix the dry ingredients with the milk and oil to a nice batter. Then you can start baking!

Depending on the type of milk you are using, the batter may be thicker or thinner than you like. Is the batter too thick? Add water until the batter is as thin as you want. Is your batter too thin? Add some flour. NOTE: these pancakes need to be more like crêpes, less like American pancakes.

Egg Substitutes

You can replace egg in various ways. Whether you eat vegan yourself, just don’t have eggs at home or want to eat vegan, it is always useful to have some egg replacements at home.

Eggs act as a binding agent during baking, give a light feeling to cakes and add fat and moisture. Several egg substitutes can imitate this. Below we tell you about different egg replacements for during baking:

  • Baking powder (works well with pancakes, cupcakes and brownies)
  • Vegetable or fruit purée (e.g. for cake, banana pancakes, cookies, brownies)
  • Aquafaba (chickpea liquid, easy to whip)
  • Chia and flaxseeds (mix with water for a jelly-like mass)
  • Vegetable oil (perfect if your recipe does not contain oil yet, recommended replacing 1 egg, no more, otherwise the dish will be too greasy)

Yogurt can also be used in place of egg in many recipes for its moist and creamy effect. But yogurt alone does not work as a binding agent. So use yogurt together with a binding agent.
