I'm going to a shower for a friend next weekend. It's her second girl. The invitation called it a sprinkle, instead of a shower. Would you spend less on a sprinkle gift than a shower gift?

I know we all live in different parts of the ountry, but I usually spend about $50 on a gift.

I have never been to a sprinkle but I would think you would spend less on a sprinkle gift especially if this is her 2nd girl.

I'd see what she's registered for first. If she's not....did she have her first girl around the same time of year? If not clothes would probably be appropriate and you don't have to spend a ton of money.

Good call. Her first daughter was born in July, this one is due in December.

She is registered- just a few things...bottles, extra car seat base, and monitor...

Maybe the bottles and some outfits?

I've never been faced with this issue because in my circle, showers are for first time MTB only. Is she registered? I would probably spend significantly less, because she can't need much. I typically spend about $150-200 on a shower gift and I'd be inclined to spend no more than $50. Maybe an outfit and some diapers or bottles?

You spend $150- $200 on showers gifts??! Holy crap, I must be very cheap!

I think bottles & outfits would be fine, or even a gift card to Target or BRU (or where she is registered) and an outfit.

I think you should spend what you feel comfortable spending whether it's a shower for a first, second or third. If you are comfortable spending less, spend less.

My family has a shower for each pregnancy no matter what and people do what they want. It's been a tradition for a long, long time. I never really heard of a sprinkle until here.

In South Florida, I have never known anyone with 2 plus kids NOT have a baby shower. The baby shower is to celebrate the birth of the new baby. So the tradition down here is you always have a baby shower (i'm sure there are some women who haven't had them, I have just never met one). It is definitely not about being selfish. In fact, around here, you would probably be called a few things if you did not have a baby shower for your second child.

Until I met my DP, who is from the midwest (IL), I had never heard of the concept of only one baby shower. I remember laughing at the concept. Now, I just accept that things are done differently all over the world and embrace everyone's traditions.

I would spend the same amount on this baby shower as the first, unless financially you cannot afford it.

I would say spend what you would want someone to spend if they were getting you a gift for your second girl.

We're also doing a big sister basket for her first daughter, so between that and my sprinkle gift, I'd still probably be spending the same...

I wouldn't be spending much at all. The only time I've ever known someone to have a second shower is if they're having a baby with a different guy... And then it's more for the benefit of HIS family. Although, I knew a woman who had a boy when she was younger, then 10 years later she had her second, a girl, and she had a shower.I always thought those "sprinkle" showers were a way for a woman to say she was selfish... Maybe I'm too judgemental.

But a shower is something done for you. If someone throws it themselves then I agree it's tacky, but otherwise it's out of the mom's control.

Like others have said, I would spend what you're comfortable with. I do think it's safe to assume a "sprinkle" would be less present based than an actual first time baby shower. So, really, just get whatever you want to get her.

And just my opinion on the second shower thing, I do not think there is a flat out right or wrong way to go. It really is just based off of your personal social standard. I know circles where it's a no no and they don't do them and I know my circle loves doing them. If I were to reject a second shower, it wouldn't tell them I have great shower etiquette, it would say I'm too good to have another one. One things for sure, though, never plan your own shower. Tacky always.

Not necessarily, but to me a Sprinkle means that she isn't registered, so I would just get a different type of gift than I would for a Shower that was registered. I would probably spend a similar amount either way, unless I had put in for one of the more expensive items at the shower, in which case the Sprinkle gift would be less anyways since there wouldn't be big items registered, KWIM?

I would say the mom is hoping to get warmer outfits for nb or 1-3 months sizes more then anything. As her oldest was born in the summer and this one will be born in winter. She's most likely going to want more clothes then anything for the seasons.

We do showers for each baby. But it's more like a diaper party then anything. It's a way to get stocked up on diapers.

I would spend the same because I believe that each shower celebrates a new baby, I don't think it has a lot to do with the mother, IMO - it's the new child you are celebrating, but I don't even feel like gifts are a must, though I would likely pick up something small like an outfit or diapers to bring. I will likely not be having a shower because my family all lives out of state, I did not have one last time, either.

I'd probably spend the same amount. If her kids are far apart in age, she may need EVERYTHING. If her kids are close in age, she may now need two of some things.

If she's registered, stick to the registry.

I would spend less only because I'm a little bratty and it's bad etiquette have a second shower (even if you call it a sprinkle). I think an outfit and a pack of wipes (or some sort of necessity would work).

$50 is usually what I spend as well. In this situation, I think $20-$30 would certainly work.

I bring an outfit and diapers to most sprinkles. In my experience, most of the ladies aren't registered. But again, it's different everywhere.

I think $50 is a fair amount depending on how close you are. I would spend more if it was a very close friend, but $50 is a good amount for most showers.
