Carlos Alcaraz, the Spanish tennis sensation, has had an incredible year, but he reveals that his most cherished victory wasn't necessarily the Grand Slam titles.
Alcaraz, now a six-time Grand Slam champion, has dominated the tennis world in 2025, winning both the French Open and the US Open. However, he faced a recent setback, losing to Cameron Norrie in the Paris Masters, which resulted in him losing the world number one ranking to Jannik Sinner. Despite this, Alcaraz remains optimistic as he reflects on his season ahead of the ATP Finals.
When asked about his proudest moment of the year, Alcaraz surprised many by highlighting his resilience and comeback rather than his Grand Slam triumphs. He explained how he bounced back from a slow start to the season, citing his defeat to David Goffin at the Miami Open as a turning point. Since then, Alcaraz has lost only four out of 56 matches, showcasing an impressive turnaround.
"I'm proud of how I came back from the tough moments," Alcaraz said. "I didn't start the year well, and the Miami loss was a real low point. But I dug deep and found my form again. That's when I started winning consistently and feeling joy on the court once more. I think that's my biggest win this year."
Alcaraz's win-loss record for the year is impressive, with only eight losses, and his comeback story is even more remarkable. He has won seven titles in the last seven months, including the Monte Carlo Masters, Italian Open, and the US Open.
However, Alcaraz's path to dominance hasn't been without challenges. He has lost to eight different players this year, including Novak Djokovic, Jack Draper, and Sinner. Interestingly, Sinner is the only player to have beaten Alcaraz in a Grand Slam final, at Wimbledon.
As Alcaraz heads into the ATP Finals, he will need to improve his indoor hard court record if he wants to be a serious contender for the title. Nonetheless, he goes into his first match against Alex de Minaur with confidence, having beaten him in all four of their previous encounters.
