Bears to face Texans in Hall of Fame Game (2024)

The Bears will open their preseason schedule against the Houston Texans in the NFL's annual Pro Football Hall of Fame Game Thursday, Aug. 1, at 7 p.m. (CT) in Canton, Ohio. The broadcast partner for the game will be announced later this spring.

The Bears were chosen to play in the contest because three of their former players—Devin Hester, Steve McMichael and Julius Peppers—are among the seven individuals who will be enshrined in the Hall of Fame Saturday, Aug. 3.

The Class of 2024 also consists of Dwight Freeney, Randy Gradishar, Andre Johnson and Patrick Willis. Johnson is the first member of the Texans to be elected to the Hall of Fame.

The Bears last played in the Hall of Fame Game in 2018, losing to the Ravens 17-16. The Bears are 4-1 all-time in the Hall of Fame Game, having defeated the Cowboys 30-24 in 1968, Jets 20-6 in 1977, Browns 13-0 in 1990 and Dolphins 27-24 in 2005.

Interestingly, the Bears have made the playoffs in each of the last four seasons they've played in the Hall of Fame Game, qualifying as a wild card in 1977 and winning division titles in 1990, 2005 and 2018.

The Hall of Fame Game will be the first of four preseason contests for the Bears.
