10 Ways To Use Matcha Tea (1)

So you've heard of matcha, a type of green tea with an earthy-spinachy-umami taste that's ground into a vibrant green powder. And you know it's supposedly good for you: Like conventional green tea (that is, the leaves-in-a-bag variety), it's high in antioxidants; but because it's a powder, you end up consuming the entire leaf, and therefore, more nutrients—at least that's what many speculate. But what the heck do you do with it? Traditionally, you drink matcha by adding boiling water and mixing it with a bamboo whisk until frothy. But that's really just the beginning. Consider matcha the protein powder of the tea world: You can add it to practically anything—smoothies, baked goods, yogurt, you name it. We talked with Julie Krupa of DavidsTea tea shop and some of our match-savvy editors for super simple recipes featuring this antioxidant-packed superfood.
